Daffodil Day '08, the Flu, the dead hand, and the back tale

Hello dear ones

We're being swallowed up by the regular end-of-winter flu, with both of us being struck down with the wretched thing. Thankfully the boy's dose was relatively mild, but mine seems to have taken hold with some force.... ugh... this too shall pass...

This rotten bug badly interrupted our annual fundraising work with Suzie Jhonston (pictured left) for Daffodil Day. Suzie and I went to school together, and we became involved with cancer fundraising together a couple of years ago. This year, we had been plotting carefully, working out rosters and which spaces needed more volunteers, and whammo! I was ok for Thursday and Friday, but by Saturday am, I was a spent force and could do no more. My wonderful husband voluntarily took himself down to Brookside with the car full of merchandise and daffodils, and proceeded to raise yet more funds for the Queensland Cancer Council. Suffice it to say, I think he's a gem, but then I could be a tad biased :)

We're still waiting to hear final figures, but Brookside had cleared in excess of $2,500 by Friday afternoon... :) We'll add these figures to those from Albany Creek and Arana Hills, and see what we end up with. It's a really worthwhile thing to do, and really involves no selling. The cause seems to speak for itself - everyone has been touched by cancer in one way or another. We have kids walking up and emptying their money boxes, and gruff looking men emptying their pockets into the donation boxes or buying daffodils for their wives. It's a wonderful thing to witness!

The boy's back tale continues on ... he has now had his MRI, and is due to revisit the orthopaedic surgeon on 1st September, so we'll know more then.

My right hand was dying a slow death, and after consultation with the GP, we were relieved to learn that it was simply a bad case of repetitive strain injury. With help from a generous ironing customer, I was able to borrow a hand splint, which has made a huge difference. The hand continues to improve daily, albeit with me slowing down the works by spending waaaaaaaay too much time on Facebook :)

More soon.... muuwwahhhhhhhh!
