The Flu Continues... and the Back Saga Part II

Hello my lovelies

This dang flu is driving us nuts - Ray has had it, and very generously decided to share it with Mumma G and yours truly. They managed to withstand a severe dose - they decided to leave that for me to battle with! Ten days of wearing it without any medical attention was enough for me. So four days into life with "drugs" and I'm slowly starting to improve but am in for a repeat dose of antibiotics. Very nasty indeed... I've been banned to the sick room, and the hound and I sleep in solitary splendour! We miss our dad!!!

We had another visit with Ray's orthopaedic surgeon today, following his MRI scan. The scan showed that the disc at vertebrae L5-S1 has completely disappeared, and the vertebrae at S1 has slid forward and out of place. It's now resting on nerves and is what's causing the boy's pain.

Dr Yang has offered to operate to fuse L5-S1. The hospital can't schedule a date as yet, as this is deemed elective surgery (how anyone could elect to live with this kind of pain is beyond me), but the guesstimate at this stage is 3-6 months. While that sounds like a long time, three months is November/December, and 6 months is Feb/March! So it's really not that far away after all. The success rate for the surgery is 70-80%, and with a substantial reduction in pain. Even though there are risks associated with it, Ray has decided to go ahead with the op, as he feels it is his only option to be able to return to any kind of employment - after all, he is only 46!!!

As this flu subsides, and we plan for the surgery in the months to come, we're working towards a big spring clean around home. As we live down the hill from a working quarry (which is operating from dawn until dusk these days), we're constantly battling an enormous amount of dust. Every now and again I get quite vicious, and wet-wipe the entire house, just to try and stay ahead of it - even if just a little! But with the boy's surgery definitely ON, we'll be doing some heavy stuff before he's laid up for a while.

You never know, I might even get some paper tole done soon - OK, OK, so that may be a little ambitious... a tidy-up in the craft room wouldn't go astray either! One doesn't venture in there without a long stick with which to poke about :)

More laters..... muuwwaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
